I am from california and was living in Ohio for the birth of my first two children. A mommy friend of mine wanted to do a baby shower for my second one and asked me what I needed for gifts. I of course responded : food, the promise of food, food gift cards, whatever. And then she informed me that it would be insulting to ask my friends for that because they would bring me food anyways, what else did I want. I have since moved back to California and am expecting a new baby any day now. And I really miss Ohioans for this reason.

My friends used Meal Baby for me when I had my daughter a few months ago. I ended up with a meal every other day for a month! It was great because I could see who was going to bring food that night & what they were going to bring. People also sent us gift cards through there!

We used MealBaby last year when my darling fiance got in an accident that put him in the hospital for a week and unable to walk or work for several months after that…oh did I mention our newborn was 5 DAYS old the day he was in the accident (and we have another child as well)?? yeah, things were a mess and his aunt set us up an account with them and it was awesome! <3 MealBaby!

This is such a fantastic idea. There are so many times when people want to get together to help each other out, and cooking dinners or whatever is an amazing way to show love! When my brother was dieing, our whole neighborhood got together and arranged to cook dinners for our family. It was such a sweet, loving act.

Oh, I LOVE this. Having just had our second baby 4 weeks ago with a very kooky delivery that has involved extensive healing, I can honestly say that gifts of food have been the most welcome of all. Everyone is happier when I’m not stressing about what to feed my sweet little family 🙂

This! When I was pregnant with my 2nd, my aunts wanted to throw me a shower and I said I wanted casserole-type throw-it-in-the-oven-without-having-to-think food. They thought I was strange. My friends, however, totally got it.

My church does this and having meals for the 1st month a baby is home is an amazing blessing! We always do 3 meals a week for 4 weeks but everyone makes enough for leftovers too so with that and gift cards my husband and I were able to bask in his 2 week family leave and then I didn’t feel guilty adjusting the next 2 weeks when he was working and I wasn’t ready to cook!

I LOVE this idea! I live in Japan and I’m always assembling meals in a jar (actually tupperware ships better) for my friends and family who have babies or those who are experiencing a hardship. We’re moving back to the States now and I will most definitely be using this in the future so I can make real dinners for everyone!
I need this! My friend who is pregnant just had intestine twist randomly and had to have some of her colon removed. Now she’s not only pregnant with two little ones in the house but she’s all stitched up and can’t lift a thing. The answer is always food. Especially for those having second or third (or fourth, fifth..) babies. Your house is already full of crap, what you need is time, which you don’t have, so you don’t eat.

The answer is definitely always food! I had a blessingway when pregnant with my youngest & people brought freezer meals for us for after the birth – I swear we just about lived on those meals the first two weeks!

There is no greater truth. Give people who just had a baby food. Cooked food. Not a “here are the ingredients you need with a few things prepped” meal, but a “here is a hot meal ready for you to eat, can I hold your fork for you” meal.
So. Freakin’. Cool. I had a meal shower with DS2, and it was AWESOME. But being able to register for it? That would have been STELLAR.

Good idea, however, if they bring you stuff you can’t kick them out as fast :). I had a rule, if you came over,u had to be helpful and I was never to ashamed to ask for help, in addition to the food.

My friend rocked up a week after i had my 3rd baby with a bootful of fresh fruit and veg, a whole ham, some of my favourite snacks (like bullets…she knows me well…we shared a house for a year!)….it was the best gift EVER! We went nearly 4 weeks without grocery shopping. Heaven. And 2 groups of friends in my area organised meal roster, some cooked for me in the final weeks of my (tough) pregnancy, meals were still arriving when my baby was 2 months old. I felt very blessed, very spoilt, very loved, very cared for. Food, definitely food. Mealbaby sounds excellent.
As a mom who received NO FOOD from anyone… I appreciate this service. I was quite disappointed in how “old ways” (bringing a new mom food, ie. casseroles, etc…) has kind of died out. It really is something that would have been wonderful.

This is so SMART, wish I’d been the one to think of it. I’m having baby #2 in Sept. A lot of my momma friends are having there 2nd babies right now as well. I really think haveing a baby shower after baby#1 is a selfish idea (unless u get a different sex) but giving food, THAT. IS. GENIUS. Heck I have a hard time with dinner with one kid in toe, now that I’m gunna have two…I’ll need all the help I can get!!! It’s MEAL TIME BABY!!!!!!

What a great website. We did the same thing when our daughter was born, but in a more informal way. We didn’t really specify what we wanted so we got like 2 months worth of lasagna! Luckily we like lasagna. One thing I would recommend to expectant parents is to make some of your own favorite meals that will freeze well ahead of time. It was great having people bring us food, but after a while we missed the familiarity of OUR food.
What a great idea! This would have been awesome when my daughter was born. Everyone brought tons of food the first couple of days and then we didn’t see anyone for weeks. Leftovers were great, though!

What an inspired idea.
A very close friend of mine not only recently had a baby (her first after a stillborn, no less) but has literally been in and out of the hospital FIVE times in the past week since he was born due to complications with her c-section. FIVE times in a WEEK, and she’s been separated from her newborn this entire time. Her husband has been caring for the baby on his own the whole time, and literally knows how to cook nothing. Literally. He eats pizza and McDonalds everyday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I know it’s randomly generated, but winning this would be a miracle.
What a good way to really help out parents!
We did something similar back in July and August of 2011 when my friend had her baby. It was a huge relief for them as new parents and gave me a feeling of being helpful. 🙂 We’re trying for our first baby this year, so hopefully we can organize with this tool when that happens. 🙂
