Non-Crappy Giveaway – Crowd Kitchen

Crappy Pictures has sponsors. Sponsors do giveaways. Crowd Kitchen is doing a giveaway! Yay!

artbudssponsor

Crowd Kitchen is a FREE service that helps you share food with friends. It is a brilliant concept. Let me explain it…

I make a big huge batch of lasagna. My friend makes a big huge batch of yellow curry.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could swap our leftovers? (By “leftovers” I’m not talking about gross, half-eaten food. I’m visualizing making a double batch. Same amount of work.)

crowdkitchen3

We could switch! That means I only cooked one night, swapped with my friend and wound up with two home-cooked meals. Freezer-friendly and packed up in food sharing containers that nobody has to worry about returning.

This is a scenario I’ve daydreamed about. But it has never happened. Why? Because I’m busy. Because my friends are busy. I’m not sure if I could handle all the back and forth emails and coordinating.

Enter Crowd Kitchen. That is exactly what it does! It is like a social media platform for food sharing among friends. You post what you have available and your friends post what they have available. When someone takes your dish you get “meal tickets” that you “spend” to take a dish from another friend. (This ensures that people don’t just nab meals without ever reciprocating, which would be lame.)

Also? It sounds FUN! I could see groups of friends and organizations having a blast with this. How awesome would it be to cook double batches once or twice a week and then swap meals with friends?

Crowd Kitchen is giving away a $50 gift certificate to their store, where they offer fabulous food-swapping friendly cookbooks and food storage containers. Would be a great way to get you started!

And a good way to try new foods without worrying about having leftover ingredients you might not use again if you don’t really like it.

  8. Parker says:

Interesting idea. I have been involved with similar things where it is like a dinner party, but everyone brings a big meal and lots of tupperware containers. Everyone gets to try a little of everyone else’s (to see what you like) then at the end you fill up your tupperware and have 5 or 6 different meals for the week, and only had to make one thing. It was a lot of fun! Crowd Kitchen sounds like less work trying to organize everything though.

    • Heather says:

Parker, Crowd Kitchen has a tool to organize swap parties like these…guests can RSVP with the dish they plan to bring to avoid duplicates. Hope your group finds it useful !

      • Parker says:

Cool, thanks Heather. The RSVP with the planned dish really would be helpful. There are usually at least two (or more) lasagnas that show up!
