Non-Crappy Giveaway – EC Simplified

Crappy Pictures has sponsors. Sponsors do giveaways. EC Simplified is doing a giveaway! Yay!

ecsimplified

(This is a repost of the first giveaway from EC Simplified a few months back. But with one super cool, non-crappy update which I’ll tell you right now so you don’t miss it. Use coupon code CRAPPYDIAPERS for 30% off until May 28th, 11:59PM, PST. So if you saw this last time and thought maybe, well now you should maybe think yes.)

So before I chatter on and on I’ll let Andrea tell you what her business is all about:

“I teach parents of 0-20 month old babies how to stop diapering full-time and how to avoid conventional toilet training…and poop…with Elimination Communication, aka Infant Potty Training.”

By the way, I know some of you use EC because you’ve said so in comments (and I read them!) and I also know that some of you have never heard of it until this moment. That is okay! You can read Andrea’s What is Elimination Communication page to learn what the heck we are talking about.

Now before we get started, I also want to say that EC is a personal parenting choice and while it might totally resonate with you it also might not. That is okay! There is no judgement here. Group hug. Please pass the chocolate or wine or whatever it is you like to share with friends. Unless it is Polish sausage. I hate Polish sausage.

(Full Disclosure: I did not use EC with either of my babies. Honestly, I didn’t know that much about it. A few of my friends use EC so I’m a bit more knowledgeable now but I have no firsthand experience. So if I sound like a fool, well now you know why. Also, Andrea knew this and still trusted me to write this post because she is cool like that.)

When someone first hears about elimination communication this might be their reaction:

ec crappypictures

Because that certainly was mine when I first heard about it. So I asked Andrea this question and she didn’t even make fun of me. Instead, she answered:

“First of all, “diaper-free” means free from exclusive dependence upon diapers. Lots of ECers (the vast majority, actually) use a diaper “back-up” for the first 9 months, then switch to underwear (that’s what we did). During the initial learning period of a couple weeks (which includes diaper-free observation time…baby naked), you might get peed or pood on. But, if you do the usual diaper thing, you might also get peed or pood on.”

Then the second reaction that people may have is this one:

ec crappypictures2

So I asked Andrea this too. And she answered:

“Just as much as paying attention to when your baby is hungry or tired. 🙂 It’s just another instinctual expression of a need, and, as with all the basic baby needs…you do have to pay attention. Or be present.”

So I’m listening to my baby’s cues and responding to him? Hey, that sounds good.

And if this isn’t enough, there is also a bonus:

ec crappypictures us

Babies are diaper-free by 6-20 months following Andrea’s steps. While the United States average for potty training is 3 years. Wow, that sounds good too.

Andrea explains:

“EC is not coercive. It is not punitive. There should be no shaming, pressure, competition, showing off, or rushing the process. EC is completely in line with babies’ natural interests, needs, capabilities, preferred hygiene, and general well-being.”

And that also sounds good.

Why did Andrea write this book? She said:

“I wanted to make a dummy-proof way to learn something which generally sounds totally impossible, intimidating, and “that would never work for me.” (Like how I felt when I started!) So if someone is *remotely* interested in breaking diaper dependence with their baby, I make it impossible for them to NOT be able to do it. Like super-super-super-easy. It even includes my own drawings!”

So if this is sounding good to you too, EC Simplified has got your back. Andrea has put together a fantastic package for one lucky winner:

pluspkg

“The EC Simplified Plus Package, which includes my book, audiobook, private video library, tools library, and access to my private support forum.”

AND

skype with andrea

“A 30 minute private chat with me via Skype or phone, to ask all of your EC-related questions personally.”

undies

“A set of three tiny baby underwear (3 sizes from teeny-tiny to still-smaller-than-what-you-can-find-in-America, made in Thailand, picked up on my travels abroad, 100% cotton, boy or girl design).”

This kinda sounds like what I’ve already been trying! My daughter started at 18months being poop free (meaning, she went on the potty) just from me paying attention, she’s now 2 though and we haven’t made much progress with the whole peeing thing so I think I might be missing something. This would SOOO come in handy.

  191. Rachel says:

My babe is still only four months old? I work full time and he is in daycare will I be able to do this part time?

  192. Karen says:

I’ve been curious about ec. I would love to try it!

    Cool!

  203. Abby Heckendorn says:

We have been ECing from 5 weeks…she is now 15 months and is still.in.diapers. I NEED this book!

  204. Shannon says:

Cool! We are on baby #2 and doing a little EC this time. I have been slacking off on it lately. 🙁 But it is way way cool to put him on the potty, “cue” him and watch him pee!

  205. BNo says:

I’ve tagged you in a post. Feel free to ignore: http://thelastoyster.blogspot.ca/2012/05/all-cliche-like.html

  206. Chris says:

EC is great for the environment and on the pocketbook. Rather spend my money on fun things than diapers. EC my first child and would love more resources for my 2nd.

  207. frank says:

please pick me. today our son just missed peeing on the cat, which is hilarious but also marks my failure to properly EC. either that or it underscores that this particular cat is relatively unconcerned about these things.

  208. Maggie says:

This past week was the very first time I saw the initials EC…and I had no clue what it meant. I would love to learn more. I’m SOOOOOO tired of diapers!

  209. April Hunt says:

My little one has been already showing signs of very early potty training. This would be a HUGE help!! Thanks so much for offering this!! =)

  213. Shiki says:

not looking forward to 2 more years of diapering. maybe this will help!

  214. Yessenia says:

  215. Giavanna says:

I am so curious about EC, and would love to learn the right way, right from the start. Please pick ME!!! 🙂

  216. elizabeth eureste says:

I would love to try this with my 3 month old. My 2.5 year old is totally against the potty, which is a problem since he´s supposed to start school in September, and needs to be potty trained by then!

  217. nicole r. says:

Would love to focus on this with my 2yo before #2 comes along in September.

  218. April says:

I’ve been considering this for a while. It would save us a lot of hassle if I could potty train our son so young.

No diapers sooner would be awesome!

  220. Ioana says:

I’d love to learn more about EC and try it with my baby boy!

This sounds really promising! I hope I win!

  223. Jeanne Marie says:

We’re in the midst of a “potty pause” right now, I think because my 11-month old is about to walk. Would love to read her ideas on this!
    Smiles and thanks,
    Jeanne Marie

  224. Rebecca says:

Oooh – this would be great! The super cheap diapers I bought from China will prolly disintegrate by month 20, and this way I won’t have to buy more!

  225. Cassandra says:

    Tiny underwear?!? Sign me up!

  226. Sara says:

My son is pooping as I type this….lets give it a try!

  230. Jennifer says:

OMG! I NEED THIS! I have 2 under 2 and need to get one of them potty trained. Either the baby or my toddler, I don’t care! Just one of them needs to be out of diapers.

  231. Beth Freeise says:

I would love to give it a go with future babies.

I am DYING to try this with my 5-month old son!

  239. Kirsten says:

I’ve got a 2 year old who is just starting with potty training and a 7 week old who I would love to start EC with. It would be great to have them both out of diapers ASAP!

  240. Lucinda says:

Tried and failed with our first bub, who ended up potty-training relatively late. Second bub is almost here and I want to give it another try…and also somehow persuade my other half that it’s not impossible…

  241. Regina P says:

I’m in! My little one is 7 weeks and I’m a SAHM now so this could be a happy thing for us.

Me, me, pick me! I never win anything!

I’ve been curious about this for awhile. I can tell when my 13 month old is going potty but I don’t know how to communicate we should try it on the potty! The one time I did she cried the whole time… 🙁

  249. Heather Sanderson says:

I would love to give this a try with my 6 month old!

  250. I tried EC with my son when he was a baby. It worked and it didn’t work. It worked in that at 8 months old I got him to poo and pee on the potty and it didn’t work in that by two and a half he still wasn’t toilet “learned”.

  251. becki says:

i reckon life would be sweet(er) if we could pull it off

  252. Natalie says:

EC works if your child is wired for it. My first just about EC’d herself, and was potty trained by 10 months. My second two wizzled on their feet every five minutes, and seemed shocked by it every time, until they got it figured out at three.

It’s a lot like sleep training. Fabulous for the kids who take to it like ducks to water. It does not mean it is an infallible, natural method for kids who don’t. It does make for parents who think it’s their parenting, not their kids, who make it work.

  253. ElisabethJoy says:

I would love to give this to my sister, who is having her first and has told me that she would like to try EC.

  254. Charlotte says:

We’ll be potty training number two soon… and I hope to make it easier than the first child…

  255. Christy says:

I’ve always been too afraid/lazy to try. Maybe I should…

  256. Corey says:

As cute as tiny diapes are, I would love to learn how to EC with my almost 3 month old baby girl 🙂

  257. Karen says:

Oooh, I would love a copy of this book for my lending library, so my Lamaze students and doula clients can learn more about the wonder that is EC. All 3 of my babies have been ECed and we love, love, love it!!! And oh, the tiny underwear… I love tiny undies on my tiny babies. 3 pair would get us well started on undies for baby #4. 🙂

  258. Grete says:

I’d heard of this method long before having my kiddo, and now that he’s closer to the “normal” potty-training age, I’m up for trying anything!

  259. Clare says:

Have been playing with EC but not as on board as I’d like to be. Would love some more EC support!

  260. Jenn says:

Pick me! I want tiny underwear!

  261. Tracy says:

LO has been pooping on the potty since around 1, but she turns 2 in a few months and peeing only happens once in awhile. I could use a bit of help.

  262. HillyG says:

I’m willing to try anything that makes using diapers irrelevant!

  263. Kristin says:

Hate diapers! Would love to give this a try!

  264. Hillary says:

I love the tiny undies! I didn’t think it would be logical to train now because of the lack of undies that would fit. Love this!

  265. elizabeth says:

Tiny Undies Please! I would love to try this with my 9 mo old. Thanks.

  266. Chantelle says:

I ECed my first son, and am still in process with my second, I’ve never read this particular EC book, and would definitely like to, as I have found that just like with everything else, both kids need and want different things.

  267. Roxanne says:

Thanks for reposting! Husband has ruminated on it and is ready to take the plunge with our 15 month old.

  268. Erica says:

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  269. Lilly's Mum says:

We EC but would love this resource.

I am willing to give this a try if it means no more diapers!

    Pick me please!

  273. Brenda says:

    I’d love to win!

  274. P. Sterling says:

We did EC with our daughter and she truly was out of diapers by 15 months. Would still love this giveaway for next time do we can avoid mistakes we made.

  275. Emily says:

    I Love the adorable underwear!!!

My first 4 were standard babies (potty training at 2-4 years old), but this time I want to do it differently.

_After_ my 4th was potty-trained, I went to a lecture by a European Waldorf childcare center owner, and she said that fully potty-training before the 2-word stage (generally 18 months) is the way to do it, as the babies _get_it_ non-verbally in a way that they cannot get it verbally until much, much later. So, waiting for kids to be able to TALK about their elimination functions is the completely wrong way to go about it!

  276. Sara says:

Oh I would love this help!

  277. Jenni says:

    Sounds good to me!

  278. Katie says:

    I would go for that!

  279. I read about EC while my first son was an infant and “tried it” a couple times. We didn’t go all in until the birth of our second son. I am so proud of my husband, who takes Ben to the potty whenever he gives his signals! I don’t know anyone who EC’s so having the book and the private chat would be so helpful.

Check out my blog eclecticmothering.wordpress.com to support another ECing mom or follow on twitter @judithssullivan

  280. Christine Romero says:

I think this is a great idea, I can’t wait to try it!

  281. Danny says:

I’d love to give it a try!

  282. Heather says:

I always knew when my LO went, but I would love to know how to appropriately use that to determine before it ends up in diaper

  283. megan says:

Our 10 month old recently decided he want to go for EC. Itwas an accident, but one my husband and I are very excited about. It’s been slow going, but we’ve had a couple of days of not peeing in a diaper. Hoo-ray for fewer dirty diapers at least!

  284. Karen Kerrick says:

Baby #2 will be here in October and I’d LOVE to not have 2 in diapers!

  285. Erica says:

This sounds amazing. I CD my 24 mo and would love to speed along the PT process because he already pees on the potty sometimes but not at all predictably. He’s a good talker so I think he’d be ready to do more EC.

  286. Raven says:

Oooh! Pick me, pick me! This sounds amazing! Skipping all that potty training ack & washing diapers sounds amazing.

  287. Karen says:

Super easy? Hot dog! Sign me up. I’d love to be able to go more than two days without doing laundry.

TINY UNDERWEAR!! 😀 My son would look so cute.

  290. Heather Boyd says:

I started at 6 months with my first –and it went down the drain at 8 months. Would love to start fresh with my 4 month old.

  291. Shelley G says:

I wish we had known enough to start EC earlier, but are thinking about it now at 18 months. 🙂

  292. Pam DeArmon says:

Oooh pick me pick me! I’ve been thinking about starting with my 17 month old…hope that isn’t too late!

  296. Emberlee says:

Hello! Thank you very much for posting this giveaway! I am trying to buy a copy of the 18 month+ EC book from her site but I do not see a place to use the coupon code. Am I missing something? Only an hour left so I hope someone can help! Thank you!
