Yet Another Childhood Product Mascot Misinterpreted

Wait, before we get into the post I have to tell you something.

I have to tell you that I started a newsletter. The reason I’m mentioning it here in a very lame and unplanned way is because people have already started signing up for it after I stuck a sign up thing over there on the right sidebar a couple days ago. The fact that without even mentioning it, people are willing to plug in their email address is AMAZING. So if you signed up, thanks for being so trusting that you just saw “Crappy Newsletter” and you were all in. For the rest of you, that’s okay. I’ll explain more about what it is and what it isn’t later in a more planned way than this that includes all kinds of salesy phrases that I got from a book from the library.

Now, back to the post…

So we’re eating peanuts at my grandmother’s house. Planters brand. You know the nuts in the blue can? Nothing at my grandmother’s house has changed since 1982. (In a good way.) Even the peanuts are exactly like the ones of my youth.

Crappy Boy has a question:

Cyborg?

I have no idea what he is talking about.

Have they updated their branding to be hip or something?

Is it an ad for a new movie?

So I look at the can.

OH! I see what he means.

I tried, I really tried to convince him that Mr. Peanut is a good old-fashioned guy.

I explained what a monocle is and everything. People actually used to dress like that!

However, Crappy Boy doesn’t care.

He wants to believe that Mr. Peanut is some kind of steampunk cyborg character.

And honestly, I think he’s right.

No, this post was not sponsored by Planters. Mr. Peanut is a registered trademark by Planter’s, etc. Really, I’m helping them, because everyone wants to eat steampunk cyborg peanuts now, right?

Except not for those of you with peanut allergies. I apologize for even writing about this offending topic.

*Not responsible for allergic reactions from reading about peanuts.

PS – This totally reminds me of when I took my kids to McDonald’s for the first time ever and they thought Ronald McDonald was a serious “bad guy”. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. Probably one of my favs.

  3. Sherylm says:

We rewatched the first episode of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who with my six-year-old grandson the other day and it is true that the bad guy was a cyborg with an amazing resemblance to the Planter’s Peanut guy 😉

I just signed up for your newsletter after reading your post and got a laugh when it asked if I was a robot after entering my email. Ha!

  5. Laurie says:

Don’t forget Burgess Meredith as “The [steampunk cyborg] Penguin” on the old Batman TV show.

    This was PRICELESS!

  7. Ellyn says:

I needed this LOL this morning! It reminds me of last year (or even longer… where does the time go with kids?) my oldest son was almost 3, and he was convinced that Buzz Lightyear was a robot. Lol!

  8. Just A Mom Who Loves Her kids says:

Your cartoons always cheer me up-especially when I am having a tough day. It doesn’t always get easier when the kids get older.
Thank you for your little piece of sunshine in my life!
