Can you see this? No probably not. See, this is why I've resorted to drawing crappy pictures. The real thing just isn't as clear. Or funny. But this stuff is real I tell you! I'm not making this up.

Yes indeed. Those white squares on the kitchen floor are the PERFECT canvas for his artistic genius. This happened under Papa's watch, not mine. Being the wonderful husband that he is (he totally knew I would want this documented) he kindly took a photo first before cleaning it up.
Did you know that dry erase markers wipe off linoleum floors quite nicely?
Did you know that they don't wipe off from livingroom walls AT ALL?
I'll spare you the real photo because it was dark and it sucks. But this is precisely what the wall looks like:
And so we'll have to repaint the wall. Which we will do just as soon as… Never. Or perhaps if we someday sell our house the new owners will take care of it.
Full disclosure: this story isn't the point of this post. The point of this post is to tell you that after several people pestered me, I started a Parenting. Illustrated with Crappy Pictures page on Facebook since many of you seem to hang out there. So, uh, "like it" if you do that sort of thing.
I felt bad just writing a post talking about the facebook thing and saying "Hey, like my stuff!" so I was quite pleased when my little one ruined the wall and kitchen floor. Blog fodder! I can work with this!

Oh my god! That is hilarious and I’m also sorry at the same time. My daughter once lipsticked the bathroom countertops but it wasn’t too bad to clean up.
I don’t have any little ones but still – I shall head off and ‘Like you’ …. because your drawings make me laugh!
I once drew designs in some squishy textured wallpaper that my parents had just put up in my room when I was small. My mother still remembers it … even without the need for photographic evidence … ;-D
Oh and ‘blog fodder’ is one of the greatest silver linings to all my imperfections too!
Try one of those Mr Clean magic erasers. or an off brand.
I used one of those recently to clean the gross tobacco smoke remnants on my walls from the former tenant.
It works great
My daughter Picassoed a (white) wall with blue dry erase marker as well. Vinegar and water worked for me!
My mom once caught me attempting to paint my own nails when I was probably about 3 years old. Apparently there was more nail polish on the floor, sink, wall, hands, and clothes than on my finger nails. Ooops. Glad I have a boy…at least for now. Nail polish would not be a fun clean up!
Keep the stories coming, my friend introduced me to your blog a few days ago after my complaining of my sons sleep habits (he’s been sick, otherwise he’s usually fine) I’m loving them!! I can totally relate. I was an art teacher before I became a stay at home mom– so I can probably expect some unexpected artwork around my home as well. He already loves to color on tables with crayons (he’s too good for the kids paper menus)and he’s only 14 months old! :o)
My eldest son drew his masterpiece on a Victorian tapestry-covered piano stool using Chanel lipsticks. The Boots No7 ones were untouched. How I laughed.
My 2-year-old mostly draws on himself. There’s an upside to this, in that kids are actually incredibly washable.
My boys wanted to watch a movie the other day. I was all for it until I noticed the green crayon all over the wall by the front door. And on the front door. And on the storm door. And on the inner door. And the ceramic kitchen floor. And the hardwood living room floor.
So after I stopped banging my head on the wall, I made them clean it up with Mr Clean Magic Erasers (it mostly worked!) and then we watched the movie.
I think I was washing dishes when it happened. It’s a blur. The youngest was also the culprit.
My 20 month old daughter decided it would be great to draw lines with colored pencil down the walls of our kitchen. Oh yes and before that she took a green crayon to her high chair and decided it needed some decoration.
Vinegar and a scrub pad took most of the crayon off. I haven’t gotten around to the pencil yet.
I’m trying to introduce her to different art materials and am learning that super vision is absolutely necessary.

Yeah, we have free range art supplies. Great for the 4.5 year old. Not so much for the 20 month old. I haven’t scrubbed yet with anything abrasive. Will have to give it a try. Pencil can usually be erased from walls I’ve found…been there before.

Crayola makes window crayons. My MIL gave Bean them and now our windows are covered. The bonus? She wants to wash the windows to. Guess how often that happened before?

The picture on your wall looks EXACTLY like one of our walls! I am loving your drawings of what real life looks like =) i’m a mom of 4, 3 boys (5.5, 4, 2.5) and a 10 mo old girl. Keep up the drawings and the real life drama. It’s encouraging to know I’m not the only one out there w/ a crazy life =)
A friend’s 3yo decided to draw stripes on my then 20mo’s face to make her a tiger… with a black permanent marker 😮 luckily only a shadow was left there after I got most of it off with a baby wipe. The miss herself found a permanent marker in a drawer at her grandparents & decorated the floor, wall, & kitchen cupboards before I realised :/ she did ‘help’ me clean it off but pub my hands were sore from all the scrubbing.

First of all, thanks for your funny stories. My children are a bit older (9 and 6 1/2) but it still brings a smile when you remind me of all these moments. I, however, am the proud owner of the a drawing done in black Sharpie marker on my beautiful solid wood dresser that it took me months to pick out. Fortunately, the kid is cuter than the dresser so he is still alive today, but there was a moment……and by the way, hairspray will lighten, but not completely remove the Sharpie marker!
MAGIC ERASERS ROCK!!! We use them on everything. They clean the tiny little grooves in refrigerators like nobody’s business! 🙂
My 7 year old was writing a letter to me (one of those letters that are a waste of time… she was just afraid of asking me something in person). Well she was writing REALLY hard on the paper. Now engraved in her nice cherry dresser are the words “Mama, can we by stuf at hoby loby to make 4th of july presints?”

oh, and all of my kids at some point have drawn with crayon letter of the alphabet underneath our kitchen table….I actually scrubbed them off with a magic eraser after the 1st kid…then gave up after that!
Hey, just found your blog and had to read through all your posts, they are hilarious! We were given a really nice leather sofa set this year, our first matching sofa set. This, of course, has become the favorite illicit art medium for my 2 year-old. In pen. I have to hide all pens from all my children, because if even one pen is laid out in an accessible area, there will be a completely new layer of ink marks ALL OVER BOTH sofas. I always tell my husband that we are never actually spending money on furniture until our children are in college.
When I was little, just learning to write, I decided to write my name in pencil on a door to the garage. I told my mom it was an accident, that I wrote it “backwards,” which in my words meant that I had been turned the other way and, without looking, had written my name behind me on the door (I lied habitually for awhile), but it’s funny because I had actually written my name backward, which I was prone to do in those days; I think it’s because I write left-handed.
Fast forward about five years, and a day came that my mom and I were sitting on the couch watching TV. My mom realized that my little sister was being very quiet and decided to investigate. Mothers’ intuition is a funny thing; my sister was sitting by her toy box drawing a big crayon-red smiley face on it. The funny part is that her reaction was the same as mine: “It was an accident!”
My mom never bothered to clean up those particular works of art even though she kept the house really clean. I suppose she appreciated the stories behind them.
My girls are older now. 14 and 12. But when they were 3 and 1, my oldest painted the toilet, floor, cabinet, and a large portion of her sister’s body with nail polish….
I have learned that magic erasers also work on DARK surfaces. But leaves a white chalky film behind. However it usually whipes off with a wet cloth. I have done this on wooden doors and walls to remove crayon and markers. Just FYI.
My entire kitchen wall and refrigerator door is covered in black sharpie. Magic eraser doesn’t work. It worked greta the first time my two-year-old covered the entire kitchen wall and refrigerator door with in pencil. It worked a second time when my two-year-old covered the same kitchen wall and refrigerator door in green crayon. Not so good on
sharpie. I keep saying I’m going to find something to remove it. It’s been there over a month now……..We’re all kind of getting used to it.

rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer work EXCELLENT for removing marker from walls 🙂
Kelli is right. My kids got a hold of my collection of dry erase markers left out from a dry erase calendar change and they wound up all over each other, toys, shoes, our walls, ceramic tile and grout. I was astonished at the speed with which they covered so much territory! It took a lot of it, but hand sanitizer was the only thing that helped the walls. I tried everything on the grout between the tile, even sand paper. Nothing ever got it ALL out. I’m glad its the least obvious, though, when I still catch sight of it from time to time, I picture my 2 year old “driving” the marker down the grout lines- and all over his sister’s face. Yes, it’s great how you can laugh later, but I don’t think I’d ever been so upset before by anything they’d done. I’ve never left a marker below the 48″ threshold since! I was such an amateur back then!
Hairspray takes it out. Then just clean the hairspray off with warm soapy water!
Mr Clean magic eraser, and depending on the marker straight Dr. Bronners soap sometimes works too.
my now 6 year old decided to draw on the window sill, window, wall and carpet with a sharpey permanent marker at 2 yrs old took alot of cleaning grrrr…
I walked out to my car with my 3 year old daughter,Braelyn, so that we could run errands before her brother came home from school. I realized that I had completely forgotten my purse in the rush and UTTER excitement of getting into the car and told Brae that I’d be right back. Which, I was right back….probably in less than 30 seconds. Upon my return, I realized that she had something in her hand and she looked at me with the biggest smile and said, “Mama, I made a pretty picture.” To my horror, a rock was in her hand and there were swirl marks (much like yours in the picture of your floor) all over the side of my Mazda. When people ask, I tell them that due to this incredible artwork, that I will hold onto this car in spite, and this will be her car when she is 16. Oh, she also found a small hole in the head liner (have no idea how the hole got there) and began to rip and tear and pull sheets of the material down off the roof. Thank god it’s paid off in full….but now I get to drive the embarrassing Family-mobile around. There’s a reason why no one other than my family gets rides, it saves the explanation of what the hell went on my car in the back seat. Our little sweet children, always giving us something to shake our heads about.
My four year old daughter painted our dog today with sidewalk paint. That’s the stuff that’s supposed to be like sidewalk chalk? Only she didn’t just cover him with paint, she made him polka dotted. How she got him to agree to this scheme is totally beyond me. Maybe she wanted a dalmation (he’s a part german shepherd part other dogs).

Poop. He finger paints in his poop. During his naptime. Sigh. Go to get him up and I discover a big surprise. A big, poopy surprise. The worst part is he thinks cleaning it up is a big game, so having him help me clean it is counterproductive. Going to start putting him in onesies before I put him down- maybe then he won’t be able to remove his diaper.
