Happy Holidays & My Marriage Book is Out Today

Hey, guess what?

My book was released today! It was released!

Which makes it sound like some sort of wild animal.

book-release-day

But anyway. It’s available in stores and online and such. Today!

So naturally, we’ll be celebrating by throwing the dog a party again.

That and enjoying my favorite part of the holiday season. When it’s over. No really. This might mean we’re doing the whole holiday marathon wrong, but we all look forward to the time after almost as much as the time during. No agendas, no going anywhere, no expectations. Just enjoying one of life’s most precious limited resources. Time. Enjoying the luxury of time. Time with family. Time to eat leftover cookies and wear pajamas all day long.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve tomorrow night if you do that sort of thing. We’ll be giving the kids champagne (sparkling cider) and making them dress up (pajamas) and then watching the ball drop on the east coast. Because we’re on the west coast. Which means we get to celebrate at 9pm, put the kids to bed and then open a real, actual bottle of champagne for just the two of us.

Yay! We’ll get to enjoy the luxury of time alone!

I hope you get to enjoy some of your own.

Happy New Year! See you in 2015!

Marriage: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures is available from these places if you want a funny book to accompany your glass of wine. I highly recommend that pairing. Also goes nicely with a cozy blanket and a cup of tea.

My copy arrived in the mail yesterday and I read the whole thing with a blanket and a glass of wine, lol. It was a good match and the blanket seeped up any pee that leaked out from crying laughing so hard, especially the cockroach story. I loved it!

  2. Tina says:

Happy New Year to the Crappy’s!!! We love your blog in our house, look forward to more in 2015!

  3. Karen says:

I completely understand what you mean about the luxury of time and enjoying the time after Christmas as much or more than leading up to it and during. It’s just like that in our house, pjs and all! Happy new year, may your year be filled with love and light.

  4. Heather says:

I remember that story about the dog’s birthday party when your first book came out! I got the shipping notification that my book as shipped and should be here today. Wahoo! Hope you have a great new year and the dog has a good party.

  5. Amanda C says:

Mine is waiting for me at home, have to get off work and get the kids to bed (dare I say it? early?) so I can read it! Or possibly wrestle it away from my husband so I can read it first. 😉 Btw, Netflix has a fake ball drop you can use on the kids to get them in bed even earlier than 9

  6. Meghan L. says:

Yay! Can’t wait to pick up the your new book. I bought “parenting” as a Christmas gift to myself.

  7. Kyla says:

I pre-ordered mine through Barnes and Nobel, and somehow, it arrived _yesterday_!
Yes, I already read it all already. ^_^
I LOVED it, laughed out loud, made my husband read the best bits over my shoulder, and just basically let it uplift my whole day.

    Thank you!

  8. Kristin says:

Hahaha!! I love the idea of celebrating at 9pm! I live in New Zealand. We celebrate first… but I’m thinking that maybe we could celebrate someone else’s the following day? hahaha!

    • Ian Wrigley says:

Me too, wondering if I can get a copy through Whitcoulls or something?

      • Bob says:

        And me!
Whitcoulls or Paper Plus should be able to order it in for you, but why not try Amazon or Book Depository? Probably be just as quick and very likely cheaper than local retailers.
        (Free shipping on bookdepository.com)

        • Kristin says:

yeah, I love bookdepository! I doubt Whitcoulls will be stocking it, but if you don’t have a credit card to purchase online they may be able to order it for you.

  9. justme says:

    CONGRATULATIONS AMBER!!!

I can’t wait to get mine :). I got it as a Christmas present for myself too! My husband was asking about it yesterday and I said “Stop acting like you’re interested in MY special gift, I know you’re actually dying to read it YOURSELF!”

    Happy New Year, everyone!!

  10. Meghan says:

I got my copy today and read it straight through without stopping to acknowledge my children’s calls of “mommy!!!” or my husband’s eye rolls as I laughed hysterically. Good stuff!

  11. Bethany Zell says:

Got mine during dinner and can’t wait to sneak up to bed EARLY and read it straight through!!!!

  12. Jessi says:

Forget using the fake ball drop on the kids…I might use it on myself! I can’t stay up that late anymore, lol. Plus, the NYE “shows” are just annoying nowadays and not worth watching – so might as well just skip right to the ball drop. 🙂

  13. Tisa says:

I read the whole thing in one sitting and have never laughed so hard in my life!!!!
Great job and congrats!!! Happy new year!

  14. Chakolate says:

Oh. You meant ‘free’ as in ‘at liberty’. Not as in ‘without cost’. Okay. (My face is red. Can you see it from there?)

  15. kristin says:

My copy surprised me in my amazon subscribe and save package! Such a wonderful surprise nestled between the Charlie’s Soap and GoL Raw Vitamins! 😀 Congratulations!!

  16. Robin says:

    Hurray for you!!
My sister, who has no children, says your first book is the funniest thing she’s ever read. She’s also single so I’m guessing she needs a copy of this book too!
Give the dog a big birthday hug for me. 🙂

  17. lindsey says:

NYE is usually watching pre recorded Kennedy Center Honors with champagne and Trader Joe’s heat and eats. Since I’m English, last year we did a British New Year party at 4 pm on west coast which was awesome cos kids got the ball/balloon drop etc and guests left by 6 pm which allowed us to change into feetie pj’s. This year is grandma in laws 85th b-day on NYD so we are away with extended family and my MIL is driving me bonkers already and it’s just night 1 of 2. This too shall pass, like teething did.

  18. Haley says:

My husband and I just finished your new book and it was awesome! We could relate so much and had a good laugh! I was seriously just talking about making a DIY hot tub by filling up our kiddie pool with hot water. No joke. Haha!

  19. Jessica says:

My bestie pre-ordered this so I am already halfway through and loving it! I read the parenting one too and it had me in tears because I was laughing so hard. While I was pooping of course. It was grand. TMI?

  20. Alicia says:

I bought the book on Dec. 30th, but I had no idea it was JUST released! But… that makes it even more awesome.

Hubby and I were in Chapters on Dec. 30th for our 9th wedding anniversary. We were doing a corny anniversary activity where we were finding different things to read to each other (this bookstore date: http://www.thedatingdivas.com/tara/the-bookstore-date/) and in the humor section we had to find a joke for each other and I picked your book of the shelves… and voila! The only thing we actually purchased as a souvenir! It’s perfect that it was released on our anniversary too! Thank you for writing it! It’s so funny — we were laughing a lot in the car on our way home.

  21. Wende says:

I was so excited to see you had a new book out! I stayed up all night reading it, and finished it in one sitting– fabulous as always!!!

  22. Angie says:

  23. Angela says:

Very excited when my copy arrived in the mail! I read it all in one evening. I don’t have much time to read with a three-year old in the house, but I made time for this!

Just got it – brilliant stuff. I am flabbergasted at how many things we have in common – the husband leaving clothes all over the house, and never ever putting anything in a laundry basket. Even our sucky births were the same! It was laugh out loud funny and really cheered me up.

  26. Jan K says:

Congratulations on the book and for being named one of Amazon’s best books of January 2015!!!

  29. Sometimes, you just have to let your Marriage Book go out into the world, and know that you did your best. All we can do is hope it makes good choices, and perhaps it will call you every once in awhile.
